Not doing anything special, just take it easy and spend time with the kids. Wonderland, maybe drive up to Wasaga Beach.

One week of R&R.

XBox 360 Live

Jacob got an XBox 360 Elite last Christmas. Since then he’s been playing offline, and as far as I can tell, enjoying himself.

Recently he’s been bugging me to get XBox Live. Did some research, and thought why would he need this, I’m not really interested in putting more money in Microsoft’s pockets. He eventually wore me down and I got him the Gold Subscription. Funny the system came with a 1 month trial of XBox Live Gold, but never looked into it.

We went to Best Buy, something new I learned as well, there is a Gold Subscription and Live points. Anyway I ended getting him the 12 Month Gold Card plus 1 Month Bonus.

Boy was I wrong, if you own an XBox 360, you need XBox 360 Live. It would be like skiing on a concrete hill. Sure, it’s doable, but you’re missing out on all the fun. I never thought I’d ever pay for a subscription service for online gaming. But I’m seeing how much fun he has playing with friends and meeting new people from all over the world to play and challenging them to a game.

Taking A Break

I’m taking a break from the gym. I’ve been going about 3 times a week, but the diet sucks. I’ll get back in there hardcore in September, 5 days a week including cardio, I haven’t been doing any cardio at all.

I’ll admit I’ve gained about 10 pounds, and not the kind of weight I want to gain. I’ll be posting an updated picture of myself at the end of August to use as motivation.

Don’t Fear The Free Weights!

I found this really interesting post from Stumptuous. It reminded me of a discussion I’ve had at least a dozen times.

I have a few female friends, and I also observe this at the gym quite a bit. They weigh 100 pounds, yet they insist on spending hours doing cardio, the response is always. “I don’t want to get big, that’s gross”. If it was only that easy.

I’ll always tell them weights actually burn more calories, and has a longer lasting thermogenic effect on your body.

Just give weights a try.

Jacob’s First Adult Roller Coaster Ride

This was Jacob’s – on the right – first adult roller coaster ride. We’ve been going to Wonderland all summer, and on our final visit for the year, he finally grew enough to make it on the adult coasters. The coaster is The Vortex. Watch his  reaction from first drop (37 seconds in). Still makes me laugh. Fall of October 2008

A New Blog

I’ve had to restart a whole blog. I previously was using WordPress with a hosting service. They went belly up and my whole database gone!! I should’ve known this would happen, for what I was paying and what they gave me. Yes I had a backup, but on their server. I was paying just over $100 a year and just renewed too. I’ve tried to contact them, only to see if I could get the database, but no response. Good thing I still have my url.

Now I need start posting from scratch again, but I will repost a few things.

Because I liked Wordprees so much, I was going to use the free version of WordPress, but it’s so limited. Looked at Blogger, Typepad, Live Journal, Virb, and a few others, but they’re all so limited as well, unless you upgrade to the pay extra options. Then I stumbled on to Tumblr, they have exactly what I need, and all free.

I been messing around with Tumblr for the last few days, and so far I love them.

So much has been going on since my last post, but I’m starting fresh and will update often.

Lesson learned – BACKUP – locally and online.
