Hockey Playoffs – Game 9 (Final – Game 2)

Well they did it – winning 4-2. The game was very close. It wasn’t their best played game, but it was enough to win.

I’m really proud of all the kids. All the early practices. Learning off-sides. From being unable to win a game when the season started. To not loosing a game during the play-offs. Beating a team in the final that they lost to 12-3 early in the season.

I’m sad to see the season end. But they’ll be playing in 2 more tournaments before the season is officially over and new teammates next season.

The OMHA Maple Lodge Farms Tournament next weekend.

Hockey Playoffs – Game 8 (Final – Game 1)

The kids finished the round robin with 6 wins and 1 tie, and are now playing for the championship.

They inched one one step closer after winning the first game in a 2 game mini-series.

Final score was 5-2. A win or tie tomorrow and the kids are the Champions. If they lose. The game goes into a 5 minute 3 on 3. If no one scores, it goes to a shootout. Lets hope it doesn’t go to this.

Another Lost Tooth

Gisele’s loose tooth finally fell off this morning. It’s been loose for about 2 weeks, but she refused let me pull it out. She wanted it to fall out by itself, and it did.

It’s funny, she’s been arguing with Jacob the last few weeks about the tooth-fairy. She doesn’t believe and Jacob does. They’re always asking me if he/she is real or not.

Enjoying A Little Sunshine

Today was a nice sunny day. After the kids came home from school we spent some time playing out side. Jacob practiced riding his Ripstick and I played catch with Gisele, then got to vacuum my car.

Later on we went to Dairy Queen and enjoyed some ice cream.

The Truth About Protein

If you are what you eat, what does that make a vegan? A string-bean, milquetoast kind of a guy? Of course not—and renowned strength coach Robert dos Remedios, a vegan, is strong evidence to the contrary. Really strong.

But most men eat animal products. And we really do become what we eat. Our skin, bones, hair, and nails are composed mostly of protein. Plus, animal products fuel the muscle-growing process called protein synthesis. That’s why Rocky chugged eggs before his a.m. runs. Since those days, nutrition scientists have done plenty of research. Read up before you chow down.

Slimmer Doesn’t Always Mean Fitter

By Gina Kolata

In his new book, “Racing Weight: How to Get Lean for Peak Performance,” Matt Fitzgerald, a sports nutritionist, writes about an amazing running experience. He worked out on a special sort of anti-gravity treadmill, the AlterG, which uses a cushion of air to lift the body, allowing you to effectively decrease your body weight as you run.

Mr. Fitzgerald started out on the treadmill by running without the machine’s assistance. Then he ran with it adjusted to lift him just enough so that he was 10 percent lighter.

“I felt as if I had become 10 percent fitter,” he writes. Running at his usual pace was suddenly “utterly effortless,” he notes, adding that “it felt like normal running, only so much better.”

Exercise physiologists agree that if your sport is particularly affected by the tug of gravity — running, cross-country skiing, cycling up hills — you are penalized for excess weight. But that leaves some questions: What is the ideal weight for your sport? And how much difference will it make if you actually achieve it?

Hurt The Back Again

This time I know how I did it.

I was dead-lifting. Everything was nice and smooth. Flawless execution, good form. On my second rep on the second set, I looked down, my back rounded, and felt the pull right away.

What possessed me to look down? The pain is not too bad and I won’t be out long. I would say about a week?

Going to see my chiropractor on Friday, get a nice massage and stretch. Then see how I feel. Then I’ll probably still play hockey Friday and Saturday?

Vancouver Paralympics Has Ended

The Vancouver Paralympics ended today and with that The 2010 Vancouver Olympics is officially over.

Canada finished with a medal count of 19, not to bad. However, the Sledge Hockey team came in fourth. Two final second losses to Japan in the semi-final,  and Norway in the bronze medal game. No three-peat for Hockey Canada.

Now it’s time to focus my attention on the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Do The Habs have a chance making out the first round?

USA ended up beating Japan and winning the gold.

Hockey Playoffs – Game 7

Jacob finally got his first goal – and almost had two more. I forgot to look at the score sheet, but he may have gotten 2 assists?

The boys played an amazing game today. Everyone was back checking and attacking the puck. This was not the same team that tied last week.

I’m in full agreement when Todd said it was probably one of our best played games.

The final score 5-2.
