5 Ways to Break Through a Fitness Plateau

By: Michael Mejia

I was stuck. Thousands of biceps curls for months on end, and nothing. Not even half an inch. My arms had simply stopped growing.

I took the Taoist approach: I quit trying. Instead of doing direct arm work, like curls, I concentrated on my chest, shoulders, and back, hitting them with heavy-lifting sets of chin-ups, rows, presses, and dips.

That’s when it happened. My arms inflated.

Hockey Playoffs – Game 6

Well we suffered the first setback during the playoffs today – a 3-3 tie.

Leading 3-1 in the third, the Canadians scored 2 goals with less than 2 minutes left.

I don’t know what was going on today? They didn’t look like the same team that haven’t lost a game in over 2 months. Even though it wasn’t a loss, the way they played and they way the lead was blown, it felt like a loss.

On the bright side, Jordan played an excellent game in nets, and overall the defence played well. It was the forwards who seemed sluggish.

Looking forward, I don’t think they like the feeling, and I feel they will play much better next game. It also guaranteed they’ll be playing for the championship next weekend.

I’ve Been Real Bad

For the past 6 months I’ve been eating real bad and not going to the gym. On average once a week. The only regular exercise I’ve been doing is hockey once a week.

I’m feeling guilty right now. I’ve gained almost 20 pounds, and not the weight I want to gain.

No matter what time I work, I’ll be waking up early and doing 30 minutes of cardio, and my regular workouts during the day.

I was thinking of doing Rippetoe’s 3×5 for 2 months, but I’m doing a push/pull with mostly compound moves.

I had my last bad meal today, no cheating for the next 4 months.

Vancouver Paralympics

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been having a little bit of Winter Olympics withdrawal.

The Paralympics started on Friday and earlier today Canada played Italy in Ice Sledge Hockey. I must say I was in awe of these athletes. The speed, the shooting. Okay it’s not the Canadian men, but I was so impressed, I watched the whole game and was thoroughly entertained.

They play sweden tomorrow, but I’m at work and won’t be able to watch. I’ll definately be watching these games every chance I get.

Canada is going for a three-peat in Hockey. Women’s and Men’s Olympic gold, both victories against the USA. Now Ice Sledge Hockey.

Bye Bye Winter and Winter Tires

Earlier this week Environment Canada said winter in Ontario is over.

Normally I would wait till April 01 to remove the winter tires, but they came off today.

I think I’m done with the mods for now. The next thing will be probably be an exhaust, when needed.

If muscles were made from chips and beer, we’d look huge. But they aren’t, and we don’t—unless you count that sack o’ fat up front and dead center.

Different Kinds of Posts Lately

I know I’ve been posting allot of personal posts lately. Where I usually post fitness and food related things.

I’ve always wanted to post things like this but never really did. My original goal was to make this a “fitness” blog and will get back to that.

Halak or Price? Again.

I went to bed last night. The Leafs had already lost and the Habs were down 3-0. Price allowed all three goals in the first. Halak started the second.

I woke up this morning, like every morning, and put on Sportsdesk. To my surprise, the Habs won 4-3 in a shootout. Brian Gionta and Andrei Markov scored in the final 1:50 of regulation, and Tomas Plekanec added the shootout winner.

There’s 10 games left in March, I predict Halak will start 9. I know my predictions are always wrong. That’s why I don’t play Pro•Line.

Hockey Playoffs – Game 5

We are now 5-0 in the playoffs. Today was a big 4-1 win. The game was not as close as the score, as their goalie made big save after save.

Going into the third period, the score was 2-1. I have to admit I was getting nervous. But two quick goals and we had a bit of breathing room. From there the boys just shut them down.

3 more games left.
